Constructed between 1959 and 1969 across the Aliyar River, the primary purpose of the dam was to provide irrigation for the surrounding agricultural lands. Inaugurated by the then Prime Minister of India, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru on Oct 2, 1962, the dam has since become an important landmark in the region. In 2002, further enhancing its significance, the Aliyar Dam was commissioned to generate hydroelectric power. Standing at an imposing height of 81 meters, the dam is a remarkable sight within the foothills of the Western Ghats.

- Timings: The dam is open to the public from 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM daily.
- Entry Fee: A nominal entry fee of Rs. 10 per person is charged. There is also a fee for cameras (Rs. 15 for a mobile camera) & Boating (Rs.40 per person).
